AU History: After years of guarding the Fearling Prison, Kozmotis' daughter came to visit him. Their reunion was brief as when Kozmotis walked away for a moment she opened the door to the prison and he was forced to watch as they turned her in to Sable Black.
Unable to kill her, the newly minted Nightmare Queen left Kozmotis to die in the prison he had guarded for so long. He escaped and chased after her, and despite his best attempts was unable to stop her path of terror across the cosmos.
He eventually caught up with the Moon Clipper of the Lunanoff's, and despite being ordered to kill Sable by the Tsar, he was again unable to do so when she attacked the ship. After all, she was his daughter and he would rather try to save her from the fearlings corrupting her than slaughter her. The explosion that destroyed Sable's own ship, the Nightmare Galleon, sent the both of them to the planet below as the Moon Clipper transformed itself in to the planet's moon.
The planet, of course, was Earth and after assuring that Sable was well and truly subdued within the core of the planet Kozmotis was finally able to rest after all the battles and sorrow of witnessing his own daughter destroy everything he'd ever fought for.
When Kozmotis awoke he had changed, the planet and the magic inherent in his own blood had transformed him in to a warden of the planet. His role became keeping the spirits and other beings that fed off of humanity in line, hunting them down when they became too destructive as well as maintaining the balance in the animal kingdom.
The centuries passed in to millennia peacefully enough, Kozmotis watching from the forests and grasses as humanity grew and flourished. Stories of a hunter that fought the monsters in the dark, of a horned man that was more friend to animals than people, of a man that lived in the woods and would lead you out if you asked and were truly in need flourished and gave him new names. Kozmotis, however, for the most part kept to himself unless forced or convinced to otherwise (an incident with a lake spirit stealing his sword and deciding on who should rule a section of land in europe during the middle ages being one such event.). He had a cordial friendship with Aster Bunnymund and a number of other spirits, but overall little to do with most of humanity.
When the moonbeam releases Sable and Nightlight from her stasis in the middle of the earth, Kozmotis was ill prepared for the attack and could do little other than keep himself alive and inform the Man in the Moon of it happening.
While North, Ombric and Katherine were busy meeting each other and fighting against Sable, Kozmotis busied himself with slaughtering the fearlings that had also escaped the heart of the planet. Their nightly threat to the world a far more pressing matter in his eyes than Sable herself. He knew what they could do if left unchecked, and while he wasn't as deeply connected to the people of the planet he resided on he wasn't about to let them be devoured by the darkness as well.
Things would have gone smoothly if Kozmotis hadn't found out that Ombric had gone back in time and tried to stop the fearlings from taking his daughter, only to be stopped by Aster. Despite knowing that time shouldn't be changed, the idea that he wouldn't have had to lose his daughter was too much and his anger at the one who'd stopped it from being different was too large to ignore. After a tirade, Kozmotis left the Warrens vowing never to return.
Personality: Kozmotis is, at his core, a stubborn protector of others. He's fought a war, led an army against pure evil and volunteered to sacrifice everything he'd fought to protect in order to keep another from having to do so. He was, as quoted in the book, every inch a hero. While this is still the case to some degree, Kozmotis has also been deeply affected by the failures and losses he's been through. He's caught up in all the things he could or should have been able to do but didn't more than the things he has done.
Kozmotis has, for the vast majority of his time on Earth, remained as neutral as possible between various factions. This has led him to become decidedly aloof and stoic when dealing with others, it isn't his place to intervene in disputes until one side or the other begins to get out of hand and it affects the larger world as a whole in a negative way. This doesn't mean that he's unfriendly or uncaring, he will certainly listen and offer advice when asked but he won't act until he feels it is necessary. He has a dry, and rather sarcastic, sense of humor that can at times be hard to read.
He believes that actions and intentions are what someone is to be judged as equally as their words, and holds himself to a similar standard. If he says he will do something he does so, and when he says he won't he rarely if ever changes his mind no matter how much someone badgers him to do so. However, he rarely outright denies helping someone when asked even if it puts himself in considerable danger.
Kozmotis is, to a large degree, almost unfailingly polite towards others. He will patiently wait until someone is finished speaking and unless the matter is urgent rarely interrupts things. He bears himself almost regally, and falls in to leadership positions with a natural grace born of his years as a General during the Golden Age. He's the sort to get right down in the mud alongside someone struggling along in it and help pull them through. He doesn't expect someone to do something he's not willing or able to do himself.
There are decidedly darker aspects to Kozmotis's personality, he deeply grieves the loss of his daughter to a near-immobilizing degree and while he enjoys it for the most part his solitary lifestyle does become heavy with loneliness. His anger, once raised, is often violent and unforgiving to any around him. He believes that he is decidedly little left to lose beyond his own existence; he's watched the daughter he sacrificed his own happiness to protect be twisted in to a monster by everything he fought to protect his world from and destroy it all.
Powers/Abilities:
- Animal Languages: Can converse with any animal of Earth in it's own language so long as he is in human form.
- Transformation/Shapeshifting: Kozmotis can take the form of any animal so long as it originates from Earth, he is limited to what that animal can do while in that form and can only speak that animal's language. He also retains some of that animal's characteristics upon returning to his own form, ie: falcon wings and tail feathers, shark skin and teeth, lion's teeth, claws, mane and tail, deer antlers, etc. (If the mods are agreeable to it, he'd also always be visible when in animal form.)
- Healing: He heals faster than a human by roughly three times.
- Night Vision: He can see just as well in the dark as he can during the day.
- Swordsmanship, general fighting skills and military tactics.
- Languages: He speaks most european and middle eastern languages that have existed, as well as a few other old dead languages (He's older than Atlantis by a lot.). As a citizen of the Golden Age, he's fluent in moonbeam, star and a bit of various other alien dialects left over.
-Belief: Belief functions differently in the books, and by extension for Kozmotis. The express denial in his existence renders him invisible, and the belief of someone else that he can do something can allow him to to it at that time. He cannot perform belief-magic himself, but is affected by it.
However if the mods want to run him on the movie's belief=visible rules I'm happy to play it that way as well! However because he is not a Guardian he would not be made powerless without belief.
- Not Human: Kozmotis isn't human, despite looking like one (mostly) so medicines and magic geared towards healing them won't work on him very well.
Possessions: Clothing: moss green sleeveless shirt (long), soft brown leather pants , leather bracers, sole-less shoes, various gold jewelry, a silver-colored locket with a picture of a girl inside.
Weaponry: His sword; hand and a half, forged of starsteel during the Golden Age. Capable of cutting through shadows, glows faintly (unnoticeable in anything other than near complete darkness.).
Arrival: Ship

I do not take kindly to being forcibly kidnapped by anyone, regardless of their technology or intentions. I am far too old to play such games and I have duties you have removed me from and now an entire planet's existence will likely hang in the balance.
This is not the way to go about acquiring the aid you may seek.
[He pauses.]
If anyone has seen a woman with gray skin and the ability to walk through shadows, please inform me as quickly as possible so she can be dealt with. Do not accost her alone, she is more than capable of killing you while laughing if she's feeling benevolent.
Also, if you see a large rabbit in a coat who enjoys eggs far more than anything that matters you are free to tell him to go suck one.
[And with that he turns the feed off.]
Log Sample:
Kozmotis hunkered down beside a velociraptor nest, tanned fingers trailing gently along the eggs inside. He'd grown to love watching young emerge in to the world, helping to usher them in when he could. He'd decided to take the three that would hatch here under his wings, he hadn't seen their mother in weeks and there was little chance she'd ever return.
The three tiny thrums of their lives tickled against his senses as the first of the eggs shuddered and began to crack open. He answered it's cheeps with encouragement, grinning as the tiny dinosaur fought its way through the shell. He extended a hand downward, the little thing biting down on his thumb and he ran his finger over it's head.
"There you are little one." he murmured, watching the creature's siblings begin their own fight in to existence. It wasn't long before all three were stumbling over each other for his attention. Their teeth weren't enough to break the skin yet, harmless for these first few weeks.
"You'll be dangerous soon, at least to the insects and anything else smaller than you." He chuckled, taking the female in hand. "You shall be Esthar, your brothers Aquila and Vasi." She trilled in response, tiny claws digging in to the skin of his arm as she climbed up it to his shoulder and her brothers scrabbled on to his feet.
"Let's get you fed, then we shall go home."
They would likely make and odd scene on the way through town, but that was little of Kozmotis's concern. His duty was more to the creatures being born here than the concerns of the people for his actions. Besides, once these three grew up they would make clever hunters and hardy mounts. A few months and they would no longer be small enough to ride on his shoulders.
